This is a conventional electric light bulb with a filament globe inside. This is an inefficient and high power device compared to more modern LED lighting.
It is included int he STEM kit as a comparison to modern high efficiency sources of light such as LEDs. It needs to be connected to a high power output such as B.6 or B.7 to work correctly.
